FAQ+Policies

    • We plan to stay open unless there is an order from the government (which there isn’t and we don’t expect).
    • We are now offering video lessons through TeacherZone if someone is sick. Remote lessons are easy just log in to TeacherZone as the student and the teacher will call you (when its arranged). Note that the remote lessons work best when you’re using Chrome, and it won’t work on mobile devices.
    • Feel free to use the green spray bottles in each classroom. These are mouthpiece sanitizer – specifically to sanitize trumpet and trombone mouthpieces, but it works like an alcohol swab. Feel free to spray your hands, other plastic/metal surfaces to clean them. Wooden surfaces will get damaged over time with the spray, so if you spray them, please wipe them off immediately.
    • I am sanitizing the instruments regularly, but I’m also putting away the wind instruments. I’m considering putting away all the lobby instruments for a while.
  • We offer unlimited rescheduling of private lessons through TeacherZone. Lessons cancelled with 24+ hours of notice are automatically “banked”, or stored for 60 days so you can reschedule them at your leisure. To bank a lesson, just log in to TeacherZone as your student account, navigate to Scheduling, then Weekly Lessons from the menu. This will bring up a calendar view of the upcoming week. Clicking on the lesson brings up menu options to bank the lesson.

If you are using the iOS/Android TeacherZone app, just open it up and click on the Scheduled tab at the bottom. This brings up a list of upcoming lessons, and just click Cancel or ReSchedule from there. If you click Reschedule, a list of available times that day will appear. Just select the open time you’d like, or click on another day on the calendar to see the available times. To reschedule banked lessons from the app, click on Banked on the top right.

If you can’t find a time right away or will be on vacation, you can just cancel the lesson. Canceled lessons are “banked” or stored for later use up to 60 days, so you have two months to find another time to come in.

However, within 24 hours, we pay the teacher for their time whether you’re there or not, so these lessons are just missed. Note that within 24 hours, you can’t use the TeacherZone app to cancel/bank/reschedule lessons for this reason.

  • Students who sign up for recurring lessons will keep the same day and time unless otherwise arranged. We will hold it for you, and we also presume that you will be coming unless you tell us otherwise. We expect 30 days’ notice to discontinue private lessons. If a student discontinues without 30 days’ notice they are still responsible for the full month’s payment.

  • TeacherZone handles our payments as well as our scheduling. To set up your payment information, log in to TeacherZone (as any of your linked accounts) and go to the Payments/Billing tab on the left hand side. If you’re using a mobile device, click on the icon of the 3 lines @ the top right, then on your avatar to bring up the correct menu.

Alternately, once you’re logged in, navigate to  https://teacherzone.com/Payment

From there, just click on Add New Payment Method and follow the dialog. On a desktop it will appear as a submenu, and on mobile it’ll show up below. EFT is preferred as there are no fees, but credit or debit is fine, too. After that, you’re all done and the ball is in my court.

Note that you can’t set up your own account through TeacherZone – We will set one up for you after you fill out our Registration Form

  • Students must give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Within 24 hours notice, I’ll have to pay the teachers for their time whether you are there or not, so without 24 hours’ notice the lesson will not be rescheduled and the student will be charged for the lesson.

Unfortunately, we cannot reschedule group classes. If a student requests to reschedule a private lesson more than 24 hours in advance Backbeat Music Academy will make every effort to accommodate the request. One student-rescheduled lesson is allowed per student per month.

As working musicians, our teachers will occasionally have performances that conflict with lesson times. If this occurs, students will be notified in advance and will be provided with an awesome substitute teacher for the lesson. Musical performances are necessary for our teachers to maintain their skills and value as educators.

  • There is a $10 late fee for payment received after the first day of the month and a $20 fee for returned payments.

  • TeacherZone is a 3rd party service that we use for online scheduling, bill paying, and teacher-student communication. Each student gets an account, and their teacher will log in attendance, weekly challenges and provides a platform for students to log practice time and to communicate with their teachers and their classmates. Parents will also get an account. For everyone’s safety, messages cannot be deleted, so you can always see everything that was said. TeacherZone also provides an easy way to reschedule lessons.

Note that you can’t set up your own account through TeacherZone – We will set one up for you after you fill out our Registration Form
