FAQ+Policies

    • For now, all classes are online. To find your online classroom, just log in to Opus at your lesson time and click on the Join Lesson button that appears with 15 minutes of your scheduled lesson time. Online lessons will continue to be an option for makeups, sick days, bad traffic days, etc.
    • When the Stay-At-Home order abates, we will reopen face-to-face classes. In general, we clean and sanitize our instruments regularly. The green spray bottles in each classroom are alcohol-based mouthpiece sanitizer that works like an alcohol swab. Feel free to spray your hands, other plastic/metal surfaces to clean them. Wooden surfaces will get damaged over time with the spray, so if you spray them, please wipe them off immediately.
    • I’m making the lobby instruments off-limits until further notice.
  • We offer unlimited rescheduling of private lessons through Opus1. To cancel a lesson, click the “Cancel” next to the lesson you’d like to cancel in the Upcoming Lessons section. Lessons cancelled with 24+ hours of notice are automatically issued a Credit. Your Credits show up to the right of your Upcoming Lessons, and to schedule the makeup, click “Use” – then select your teacher, the day and then choose the time.

Credits are stored for 60 days so you can reschedule them at your leisure. If a teacher cancels a lesson, Credits never expire.

Lessons cancelled within 24 hours, we pay the teacher for their time whether you’re there or not, so these lessons are just missed. Note that within 24 hours, Opus1 will warn you of the policy. If you accidentally Cancelled, just let us know and we can reinstate it.

  • Students who sign up for recurring lessons will keep the same day and time unless otherwise arranged. We will hold it for you, and we also presume that you will be coming unless you tell us otherwise. We expect 30 days’ notice to discontinue private lessons. If a student discontinues without 30 days’ notice they are still responsible for the full month’s payment.

  • Opus1 handles our payments as well as our scheduling. To set up your payment information, log into Opus1 and click go to the Update Payment Methods icon in the menu to the left of your avatar. tab on the left hand side. is preferred as there are no fees, but credit or debit is fine, too. After that, you’re all done.

  • Students must give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Within 24 hours notice, I’ll have to pay the teachers for their time whether you are there or not, so without 24 hours’ notice the lesson will not be rescheduled and the student will be charged for the lesson.

Unfortunately, we cannot reschedule group classes. If a student requests to reschedule a private lesson more than 24 hours in advance Backbeat Music Academy will make every effort to accommodate the request. One student-rescheduled lesson is allowed per student per month.

As working musicians, our teachers will occasionally have performances that conflict with lesson times. If this occurs, students will be notified in advance and will be provided with an awesome substitute teacher for the lesson. Musical performances are necessary for our teachers to maintain their skills and value as educators.

  • There is a $10 late fee for payment received after the first day of the month and a $20 fee for returned payments.
